چکیده

Speaker verification and identification systems most often employ HMMs and GMMs as recognition engines. This paper describes an algorithm for the optimal selection of the feature space, suitable for these engines. In verification systems, each speaker (target) is assigned an “individual” optimal feature space in which he/she is best discriminated against impostors. Several feature selection procedures were tested for the selection process. A Recognition Related Criterion (RRC), correlated with the recognition rate, was developed and evaluated. The algorithm was evaluated on a text-dependent database. A significant improvement (over the “standard” MFCC space) in verification results was demonstrated with the selected individual feature space. An EER of 0.7% was achieved when the feature set was the “almost standard” Mel Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients (MFCC) space (12 MFCC + 12 ∆MFCC). Under the same conditions, a system based on the selected feature space yielded an EER of only 0.48%.

On Feature Selection for Speaker Verification

This paper describes an HMM based speaker verification system, which verifies speakers in their own specific feature space. This ‘individual’ feature space is determined by a Dynamic Programming (DP) feature selection algorithm. A suitable criterion, correlated with Equal Error Rate (EER) was developed and is used for this feature selection algorithm. The algorithm was evaluated on a text-depen...

Selection of speaker independent feature for a speaker verification system

In this paper we propose an optimisation technique to choose a user independent feature subset from the input feature set for a DTW-based text-dependent speaker verification system. The optimisation technique is based on the l-r algorithm, which in essence is the combination of sequential forward and backward search algorithms. The performance criterion used for optimum feature selection is the...

Variable print quality

In the literature, much research work has been done in the area of speaker verification. The developments include: different types of speaker verification techniques, methods for feature extraction, measures for telephone channel compensation, system robustness etc. In contrast, the problem of acoustic feature selection for speaker verification has been relatively neglected. Hence our aim is to...

Local spectral variability features for speaker verification

Speaker verification techniques neglect the short-time variation in the feature space even though it contains speaker related attributes. We propose a simple method to capture and characterize this spectral variations through the eigenstructure of the sample covariance matrix. This covariance is computed using sliding window over spectral features. The newly formulated feature vectors represent...

Frame Length Selection in Speaker Verification Task

In this paper an approach based on the use of different frame lengths for the feature extraction process in the training and recognition phases of a speaker verification system is presented. It is able to sensibly reduce the ER and the degradation on performance related to the training/verification feature mismatch. The potentiality of the approach are investigated in an a-posteriori search of ...
